Both Lee and Zoe are avid readers, with Lee doing much of the blogging about books, so here’s his blurb on reviews…
I review a lot of books over on Goodreads. When I review books I don’t tend to refer much to the events in the book or the narrative. My reviews focus on how I felt about the book rather than retelling the story as I don’t see the point in those kinds of reviews, that’s what a blurb or a synopsis is for right?. As such, my reviews don’t contain spoilers and are more my way of recommending books or letting others know of books I would rather not have read.
I will generally give 5 stars to books I consider ‘must reads’, 4 to books I would recommend, 3 if I have enjoyed a book, 2 for sub-par and 1 star reviews I will only give out on rare occasions where I have really not enjoyed something.
I sort books into the following categories:
Fiction – Generally fiction books which range from YA up to the things I would read now, and might not recommend for classroom use.
Non-Fiction – I tend to like history, RE, education and theology books. There might be some travel and humour sneaks in here though.
KS1 – Books mainly suited for use with KS1 children. This doesn’t mean they are not great for other areas or different age groups, only that I consider them best for children aged 4-7.
KS2 – Books mainly suited for use with KS2 children. This doesn’t mean they are not great for other areas or different age groups, only that I consider them best for children aged 8+.
